Nancy Schmautz, 2005 Ted Snyders Recepient

The 2005 Ted Synders Award recipient was Nancy Schmautz (photo left) of Calgary, Alberta. Nancy has been involved with and committed to the carwash industry since 1983. In 1999, at the first CARWACS show in Calgary, the then CCA President Mike Black (photo right) was involved in helping to establish the Western Chapter and approached Nancy to assist with this effort.

She agreed to become the founding President of the CCA’s Western Chapter – an important initiative of the CCA designed to reach out to fellow carwash operators who are grappling with regulatory and other issues unique to the Western Provinces.

Nancy has been an influential member of the CCA Board and has spearheaded a number of initiatives related to environmental regulation, municipal zoning and strategic alliances with organizations such as the Yellow Fish Road Foundation. She, of course, was also instrumental in growing theh CCA Western membership base.

After seven years of dedicated service to the CCA, Nancy decided to step down as President of the Western Chapter. In recognition of her outstanding service to the carwash industry, the CCA Board present to her the 2005 Ted Synders Award.

The Canadian Carwash Association owes its foundation, literally, to Ted Snyders who spent all his working and volunteer life in the carwash industry. Ted finally retired six years ago at the age of 83. When asked recently what his fondest memory of the CCA was he responded with, "There's a 101 of them". However he did add, "I am amazed how much can be accomplished if you join together rather than do things separately".
